Pajama-Clad Drunken Man Harasses Store Customers

The following information was provided by the Portsmouth Police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Sunday, Oct. 27 to Monday, Oct. 28.

Sunday:

  • At 11:06 a.m., police arrested an Amesbury, Mass., man following a domestic incident on Lafayette Road. Dereck Leighton, 35, of 27 Hope Drive was charged for being deemed a habitual offender and on a bench warrant.
  • At 12:20 p.m., police reported a theft on State Street after the caller said her property was subjected to multiple acts of vandalism and that some of her outside flower pots were stolen.
  • At 12:58 p.m., police reported an iPhone theft on Daniel Street.
  • At 2:05 p.m., police reported criminal trespass on Congress Street after the caller said four or five juveniles were up on the roof of his building.
  • At 2:24 p.m., police reported criminal trespassing on Woodbury Avenue after a store employee said a drunken man dressed in his pajamas kept verbally harassing people outside of the business.
  • At 6:25 p.m., police arrested Kittery, Maine man following a domestic incident that took place in the intersection of Atkinson and State streets. John P. O'Brien, Jr., 44, of 7 Remicks Lane was charged with driving while intoxicated.
  • At 6:49 p.m., police arrested a 14-year-old juvenile who was destroying property on Middle Street and charged him with four counts of criminal mischief (vandalism).
Monday:
  • At 4:47 a.m., police reported a theft at the Vaughn Mall after the caller said someone took his cane and fled.
  • At 12:19 p.m., police reported truancy on Sherburne Road after a student left school and was later picked up by police on the side of the road.
  • At 3:28 p.m., police reported theft at Beechstone Apartments after the caller said someone stole her purse from a vehicle.
  • At 4:16 p.m., police reported a credit card theft on Penhallow Street.
  • At 4:22 p.m., police reported criminal mischief on Bartlett Street after the caller said there were some male subjects on his property that appeared to be drunk.
  • At 5:16 p.m., police arrested a Portsmouth man on Ledgewood Drive following a domestic incident. Dustin J. Wivell, 38, of 110 Ledgewood Drive, Apt. 4, was charged with simple assault.
  • At 7:25 p.m., police reported a dead deer on International Drive and Corporate Drive and called on New Hampshire Fish and Game to remove the animal.
