Police: Man Punched Bartender in the Jaw

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Sunday, Jan. 13 through Monday, Jan. 14.

Sunday:

• At 12:27 p.m., police reported two pieces of tagged graffiti on the I-95 overpass bridge on Market Street.

Monday:

• At 5:12 a.m., police reported a gas drive-off totaling $67.31 from a Route 1 Bypass south bound business. The driver was notified that he owed the money, he returned and paid his bill.
• At 10:20 a.m., police reported shoplifting after the caller said a male subject took a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses from an Islington Street business.
• At 5:14 p.m., police reported a theft of a license plate on Middle Road.
• At 8:50 p.m., police reported a theft of a cell phone at a Middle Street residence.
• At 9:29 p.m., police reported a simple assault at a Daniel Street restaurant and bar after a male subject reportedly punched a bartender in the jaw. Police searched the area in front of the establishment, but could not locate the person who matched the description. The bartender declined medical attention.
