Portsmouth to Get More Stores?
Phase 2 of a Southgate Plaza development that will create several new stores, a 10-screen movie theater and diner gets underway.
New Hampshire Demolition crews were hard at work tearing down the rear wing of Southgate Plaza on Wednesday afternoon to make room for 27,000 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space.
The wing that once housed Namco Pools and Goodwill Industries was pretty much gutted as crews carried out Waterstone Retail Development's plans to construct a new building that will be home to several stores as well as a new Cinemagic 10-screen movie theater and a vintage 1940s diner.
According to a sign posted at Southgate Plaza, Waterstone Retail Development is already leasing the new store and commercial spaces in the new North Building. According to the company's website, one of the new businesses that will be located in the North Building will be AirZone, an indoor recreational facility for kids that features inflatable bouncy houses and games.

According to Douglas Richardson of Waterstone Retail Development, Cinemagic will build a 10-screen movie theater with approximately 1,280 seats and a 20,000-square-foot retail building on the north end of the site and that construction would begin this spring. He said the Roger's Redliner Diner would be attached to a new retail building adjacent to the new movie theater.
What new stores and/or restaurants would you like to see added to Southgate Plaza when the new North Building is constructed?
