Rochester Man Killed In Early Morning Fire

ROCHESTER, NH — Rochester Fire and Police Departments were called to Jackson Street at 2:03 a.m. for a report of heavy smoke in the area; possible building fire. Upon arrival police and fire department discovered a small RV/camper behind a residence heavily involved in fire. Firefighters made a quick knockdown of the fire, preventing it from spreading to the nearby residences, and subsequently discovered a male victim, deceased, inside the camper.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's office, Rochester firefighters, and Rochester police are investigating the incident.

Positive identification of the male victim and cause of death are pending an autopsy that will take place at the NH State Medical Examiner’s Office in Concord.

The investigation into the Origin & Cause of the fire is active and ongoing by members of the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office – Bureau of Investigations and the Rochester Fire and Police Departments.

State Fire Marshal Parisi would like to remind all citizens of the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms even in your recreational vehicles and campers. Additionally, Marshal Parisi stated, "Portable space ace heaters are designed for temporary use and must be plugged directly into an electrical outlet. Extension cords and power strips are not equipped to handle the extra current flow needed to power a space heater, which can overheat and cause a fire."
