Police Investigate $3K Check Scheme
The following information was provided by the Portsmouth Police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Portsmouth Police log from Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Wednesday:
- At 7:29 a.m., police reported fraud on Islington Street after the caller said she received a bad check.
- At 7:52 a.m., police arrested a Sanbornville man for motor vehicle offenses on Islington and Brewster streets. Damon Hemenway, 29, of 95 Fellows Road was charged with driving after revocation or suspension and false inspection or registration sticker.
- At 8:29 a.m., police reported that a dead raccoon was found on Elwyn Road that was later dispatched.
- At 9:35 a.m., police arrested a Rochester man for motor vehicle offenses on Wilson Road and Coolidge Drive. Brandon M. Dube, 25, of 24 Sherman St. was charged with driving after revocation or suspension.
- At 10:48 a.m., police reported fraud on Bow Street after the caller said someone had cleared $3,000 from an existing account by writing checks and the balance of the original $7,000 account was at zero.
- At 12:25 p.m., police reported a three-car accident on Sherburne Road and Grafton Drive without injury.
- At 1:24 p.m., police took a 15-year-old juvenile into protective custody on Sherburne Road after she was reported as truant from the Lister Academy school.
- At 1:39 p.m., the same juvenile left the Lister Academy again and was later released to the custody of her mother.
- At 3:24 p.m., police reported the theft of a carpet dryer on Lafayette Road.
- At 5:47 p.m., police reported a car accident where the driver struck and killed a deer on Corporate Drive.
- At 6:35 p.m., police reported a simple assault at an unknown address where a staff member was assaulted by a juvenile who police say squeezed the staff member's hand too hard and caused it to bleed.
