Shaheen to Discuss College Affordability at UNH

She'll meet with students in the school's Introduction to American Government class.

Submitted by the Office of U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen:

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will discuss the rising cost of higher education and her proposals to help students and families manage student loans Monday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Shaheen will meet with students in UNH’s Introduction to American Government class where she will discuss college affordability and upcoming legislative proposals before taking questions from students. Throughout her career, Shaheen has worked to make college more affordable and accessible.

Nationally, students hold nearly $1.2 trillion in student debt, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Project on Student Debt estimates that New Hampshire students leave school with an average debt of nearly $33,000, and that 74 percent of New Hampshire students leave school with debt.

Shaheen has led efforts to increase access to higher education for New Hampshire students and has supported maintaining low interest rates for Stafford loans and the Pay As You Earn repayment plan to help students and families manage college tuition.
