Shea-Porter to Host Veterans Open House in Portsmouth
The event will be held Tuesday at noon at American Legion Frank E. Booma Post 6.
Submitted by the Office of U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter:
On Tuesday, February 25, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) will host a Veterans Open House at the American Legion in Portsmouth to hear directly from former service members and their families about the challenges facing the veterans community. A light lunch will be provided.
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee and a former military spouse, Shea-Porter is committed to helping veterans find good jobs and access the health and education benefits they’ve earned. In April, she hosted a veterans town hall at the American Legion Sweeney Post in Manchester. In July, she heard directly from veterans during an open house in Rochester.
On February 11, Shea-Porter kept her promise to military retirees by voting to cancel the reduction in the cost-of-living adjustment for military retirees under the age of 62 (S. 25), and she pledged to continue pushing to fully reinstate COLA adjustments for individuals who join the armed forces after January 1, 2014. In the 113th Congress, she has helped pass legislation that would guarantee veterans access to in-state college tuition rates (H.R. 357) and improve job opportunities for veterans (H.R. 1412). She also authored and won passage of provisions to expand access for military families to rehabilitative therapies and to continue support for the yellow ribbon program (H.R. 1960).
In addition, Shea-Porter has attended numerous events for veterans in the past year, from the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Ceremony to welcoming home New Hampshire’s newest veterans at a National Guard Freedom Salute.
Veterans and their families interested in attending Tuesday’s Open House should RSVP to Josh Denton, an Iraq War veteran who is the Congresswoman’s veterans liaison, at Josh.Denton@mail.house.gov or 603-641-9536.
