Star Island Gets 'Star' Treatment on National TV Show
SyFy Channel's "Stranded" crew films episode at Oceanic Hotel in search or paranormal activity.
Star Island and the Oceanic Hotel have always been known for their history, but what the thousands of visitors who go there every summer may not know is that the hotel has its share of ghosts, too.
This is what a three-member crew from the SyFy Channel show "Stranded" sought to capture when they went out to the island with hand held cameras in hand. According to Kyle Belmont, Star Island Corp.'s program and outreach coordinator, the crew came out to the island in September.
The episode, which was the series' season premiere aired on Wednesday night. Belmont said Star Island Corp. staff members gathered to watch it together. "We were fascinated to see Star Island during the off season with only three guests present, as we are used to our vibrant and well attended summer programs," Belmont wrote in an e-mail.

According to the SyFy Channel's website, Philadelphia natives Sarah, her ex-boyfriend, Sean, and their friend Xand traveled to Star Island earlier this year in search of any and all paranormal activity.
Some of the things they encounter during their five-day stay include the sounds of slamming doors and the spirit of a little girl who they say is roaming the hallways of the hotel. By the time they leave, both they and their audience are more convinced that some paranormal forces do exist on Star Island.

Belmont said Star Island Corp. officials were so impressed with the show, they decided to offer a new weekend program in 2013. "We do believe Star Island is a spiritual place, and we welcome all. For those who have a greater interest in paranormal activities we are working with Northeast Paranormal Associates in hosting a Paranormal Adventure Weekend in June of 2013," wrote Belmont in an e-mail.
According to the SyFy Channel's website, the Star Island episode will air again on the SyFy Channel on Sunday, March 3 at 9 a.m. and on April 10 at 10 p.m. Tune if you dare...
