Today is Groundhog Day in Portsmouth

Do you think we will have an early spring or six more weeks of winter?

Believe it or not, today, Feb. 2, is Groundhog Day, when those who are weary of winter turn their eyes to Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who will come out of his burrow in that Pennsylvania community and tell the world if we are in for an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges, then we will see an early spring. If it is sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow and runs back into its burrow, then we will see another month and a half of winter.

What do you think? Will the Portsmouth area see an early spring or six more weeks of cold, unrelenting winter? Share your comments.
