VIDEO: North Span Float In Redux

Portsmouth Webcam time lapse video provides look at how latest piece of Memorial Bridge was put in place early Wednesday morning.

Archer Western Contractors crews spent hours floating in the north span for the new Memorial Bridge and then attaching it to the Kittery, Maine side of the Piscataqua River early Wednesday.

The operation began at 1 a.m., which was too early for even the most diehard bridge watchers. But thanks to the Portsmouth Webcam positioned by the Weathervane restaurant on Badgers Island, Portsmouth area residents who were unable to witness the actual float in can now watch it unfold, albeit at a slightly accelerated pace.

Archer Western Contractors crews are now assembling the middle lift span at the New Hampshire State Pier, which is tentatively scheduled to be floated in later this spring. The target date to open the new bridge is July 6.
