VIDEO: Young and Old Love Pumpkin Smashing

Portsmouth Halloween fundraiser at Portsmouth Farmers Market saw many pumpkins pummeled into oblivion.

With Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the Northeast, Portsmouth area residents took advantage of a beautiful fall Saturday to smash some pumpkins to support the Portsmouth Halloween Parade on Oct. 31.

For $5, visitors young and old were able to smash, bash, crush, and destroy pumpkins with either a baseball bat, shovel, or a large wooden mallet. As many as 100 rotted pumpkins met their door during the Portsmouth Farmers Market at the City Complex.

Julia Luff, a Portsmouth High School freshman, said she enjoyed it immensely. "It gave me an opportunity to get all of my anger out on the pumpkin," she said.
