When Will Cemita Shack Open?

According to The Station's Facebook page, it could be in June or July.

Michelle Lozuaway and Josh Lanahan, co-owners of STREET, had hoped to open the Cemita Shack, their new Mexican-style restaurant, by Memorial Day weekend, but they were not able to do it.

Instead they are looking at opening the new eatery sometime in June or July, according to The Station's Facebook page. STREET's owners operated The Station last summer on State Street.

On Wednesday afternoon, crews were busy working on the inside of the former Taco Bell restaurant on Lafayette Road that will the Cemita Shack's new home. It is also located next to Vida Cantina, the Mexican-style restaurant that Jay McSharry and Joel Harris, owner of Dos Amigos Burritos, opened in May.

The STREET owners also revealed on The Station's Facebook page the Cemita Shack will be BYOB with a drive through window. Attempts to reach Lozuaway and Lanahan for comment at STREET on Wednesday afternoon were unsuccessful.

Earlier this year, Lanahan said they signed an agreement to lease the 2,000-square foot former Taco Bell restaurant on Lafayette Road at the Southgate Plaza.

Lozuaway said they want to create a Cemita Shack menu where all of the items will cost $4.20. It will be a casual eatery where patrons can come in and enjoy their food with a beer or some wine or get an order to go.

She said the cemita, which is a Mexican-style burger, will be one of the primary items featured on the menu. Lanahan described it as a butter toasted sesame bun with cilantro, pickled red onion, avocado, fried Mexican cheese and a choice of different meats like chicken, STREET's own ground beef, and fried pork loin. Patrons will also be able to choose pan seared or fried seafood options and vegetarian options that include a fried sweet potato, he said.
