When Will $450K Memorial Bridge Fine Be Paid?

New Hampshire Department of Transportation officials have no plans to collect a $450,000 fine from the Memorial Bridge contractor anytime soon.

According to Bill Boynton, the state agency's public information officer, a final decision on whether to charge Archer Western Contractors for the fine will not be made until later this fall.

Boynton wrote in an e-mail that the contractor still has some work to complete around the Scott Avenue approach area and on the Kittery, Maine side of the new $81.4 million span. Once the contractor has finished everything, Boynton said a decision would be made.

Archer Western Contractors delivered the new Memorial Bridge project 19 days past the July 19th deadline and was charged $25,000 per day, according to the terms of the contract between the contractor and the state agency.

In addition to the other work the contractor will complete, the contractor has also agreed to install the new LED lighting after it Contributed $50,000 to help the Memorial Bridge Illumination Subcommittee reach its $200,000 goal earlier this year.

That work is not part of the current contract.
