Winter Storm Creates Shopping Frenzy

Portsmouth area residents storm Market Basket to buy groceries and supplies a day before a winter storm Nemo is set to hit the Seacoast.

Portsmouth supermarket parking lots were jam packed with cars as city residents rushed to get some last minute shopping done for the groceries and supplies they will need to ride out this weekend's winter storm that could leave 14- to 24 inches in its wake.

Business at Shaw's Supermarket on Woodbury Avenue, Trader Joe's in Newington, and Hannaford Supermarket on Islington Street was very brisk on Thursday as more information about the severity of the winter storm became available.

On Thursday afternoon, Market Basket supermarket on Woodbury Avenue was very busy as Portsmouth area residents stocked up on milk, bread, canned soup, vegetables, spring water, and other food items. Shoppers were also buying lots of batteries and ice melt in case the storm's high winds that could reach up to 50 mph cause widespread power outages.
