Coastal Storms Bring 2 Chances Of Snow To NJ This Week

Depending on the track two coastal storms take, New Jersey could see snow later in the week, forecasters say.

New Jersey could see accumulating snow later this week depending on how two coastal storms play out, according to the latest forecast.

A jet stream will dip into the eastern U.S. Thursday, according to AccuWeather forecasters, and its position will determine where a coastal storm forms and how it moves.

A storm that tracks further east would bring only snow showers focused in the northwestern corner of the state, according to AccuWeather.

However, another possibility is that the storm stays closer to the coastal, resulting in a snowstorm across New Jersey.

How this first storm plays out will determine what happens with a second storm.

"If the storm on Friday is strong and hugs the coast with snow, it would likely push the next storm out to sea later this weekend,” said AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok. "However, if the first storm is weak and moves out to sea, the second storm could become stronger and track much farther north."

But it's also possible that both storms could be a miss and no significant snowfall occurs.

National Weather Service forecasters noted that there is still a great deal of uncertainty and did not offer any specific details. Forecasters did say that temperatures could also impact what happens.

"Our temperatures forecast for these times would support snow for the, climatologically favored, N/W counties and mostly rain and perhaps some snow for S/E areas," National Weather Service forecasters said Monday.

Details will become clearer in the coming days. Patch will share updates as they occur.
