Severe Storms With 60 MPH Winds, Downpours Possible This Week In NJ

NEW JERSEY — While it's sunny and warm outside Tuesday, a strong storm system could move in by the end of the week, soaking the Garden State with heavy downpours and bringing winds of up to 60 mph, according to the latest forecast.

Severe storms are moving eastward across the country which will arrive in the northeast by Thursday, AccuWeather forecasters said. By the time the system makes it to the region, it will not be as strong, but still carries the risk of severe weather, particularly in North Jersey.

Severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon into evening in North Jersey, with 50 to 60 mph winds and downpours, according to AccuWeather forecasters.

The National Weather Service calls for isolated to scattered showers and a possible thunderstorm Thursday mostly in northwest Jersey.

A cold front may bring a round of showers and a few thunderstorms to New Jersey Friday, with the potential for a heavy downpour, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures will still be in the mid-to-upper 80s.

That front will move across the region Saturday, increasing the chances of thunderstorms and brief heavy downpours. A few isolated strong storms are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Things could dry out Sunday, but more unsettled weather could return early next week, forecasters said.
