8 NJ Counties Under Coastal Flood Advisory Wednesday

Coastal flooding is possible in eight NJ counties on Wednesday, with partial or full road closures also in the cards. Here's the latest.

NEW JERSEY - Up to one foot of flooding above ground level is expected in some areas in the Garden State on Wednesday, with partial or full road closures possible due to coastal floods.

While there is a chance of light rain and drizzle, especially near the coast and near/north of I-78, New Jersey isn’t expected to see the heavy rainfall witnessed earlier this week. Instead, coastal flooding serves as the biggest threat, with eight New Jersey counties under a coastal flood advisory through 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The counties are:

  • Ocean
  • Burlington
  • Monmouth
  • Atlantic
  • Cape May
  • Middlesex
  • Cumberland
  • Salem

(A coastal flood statement has been issued for Hudson County, eastern Essex, and eastern Union.)

“Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,” the National Weather Service said in the advisory. “At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.”

There is also a high risk of rip currents at the beaches on Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service added.
