NEW JERSEY - Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to saturate New Jersey on Monday as parts of the state already report – or are anticipating – flooding, forecasters said.

Locally heavy rainfall is possible throughout the day, along with the potential for localized flooding, the National Weather Service said in a statement. The news comes after up to three inches of rainfall already washed out some areas and prompted road closures, including Route 30 in Camden. Power outages were also reported Monday morning in Robbinsville in Mercer County and Delaware Township in Hunterdon County, per JCP&L.

“Additional showers and thunderstorms will move across the region today, bringing beneficial rainfall,” the National Weather Service said in a tweet Monday morning. “Heavy rainfall with some storms may lead to localized flooding. If you encounter flooded roadways, turn around, don't drown!”

As of Monday morning, Ocean County is under a flash flood warning until 8:45 a.m., the National Weather Service said after 3 to 4 inches of rain already fell in the area. Additional
rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area, the agency said.

“Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas,” the agency said. “Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
