This Weather Stinks: Here Is When It Will End In NJ

Temperatures will climb this week, but the recent rainy trend will continue with severe storms in the forecast.

NEW JERSEY — The ongoing trend of gloomy weather will continue with stormy downpours ahead for New Jersey, but at the same time temperatures will climb into the 90s and possibly hit 100 degrees, according to the latest forecast.

Parts of the state could reach 70 degrees Tuesday as scattered showers linger, National Weather Service forecasters said.

By Wednesday, we could see "dangerous heat" particularly in the Philly metro area and South Jersey, along with severe thunderstorms, according to the forecast.

Strong to severe storms will likely have heavy rainfall, along with damaging wind gusts and possible hail, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Storms should end after sunset, ushering in a warm and muggy night.

Things will get even hotter Thursday and the chance of severe storms increases, the National Weather Service said. However, model discrepancies mean that forecasters don't know exactly how storms will play out as of Tuesday.

Heat will move into New Jersey from the west starting this weekend as the summer solstice arrives on June 20. The weekend also looks to be mostly dry.

"While the amount of moisture in the soil may hold actual temperatures back just a bit as opposed to if the ground were dry, widespread highs in the 90s are likely," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Chad Merrill said. "When factoring in moderate to high humidity levels, it may feel quite oppressive when the heat breaks loose with AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures well above 100 in the afternoons."

Here's the latest forecast.
