'Atmospheric Traffic Jam' To Bring Days Of Rain, Storms To NJ

An "atmospheric traffic jam" will bring days of rain and thunderstorms to the Garden State, according to the latest forecast.

NEW JERSEY — An "atmospheric traffic jam" will bring several days of clouds, rain and thunderstorms to the Garden State this week, according to the latest forecast.

AccuWeather forecasters say that a storm is moving slowly and stalling across the United States, which will cause rounds of rain and thunderstorms in New Jersey.

Monday starts off with showers and isolated thunderstorms, with the highest concentration expected in North Jersey, the National Weather Service said.

Then, Tuesday morning will start with "a bit of a lull," after which showers and thunderstorms will redevelop especially in areas northwest of the I-95 corridor in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

Showers and storms continue Tuesday night through Wednesday night, forecasters said. Up to 4 inches of rain could fall through then, with the highest amounts in northwest New Jersey and getting lower the further south you go.

This rainy pattern continues Thursday and Friday, but things should dry out for the weekend, forecasters say.

While all of this rain may be annoying and put a damper on outdoor plans, forecasters say that it will be good for continuing to fix drought concerns and could put an end to the forest fire season.

Here's the latest forecast.
