NJ Woman Found Dead Off South Carolina Coast

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — A New Jersey woman died on Sunday while boogie boarding off the South Carolina coast, authorities said.

Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina responded to Collier Beach Road on Hilton Head Island just before 1 a.m. Sunday after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman in the surf, the agency said in a news release.

When deputies arrived, they found the woman wearing a wetsuit with a boogie board still attached to her ankle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office later identified the woman as 50-year-old Aine Ni Cheallaigh of North Bergen, according to a NJ Advance Media report.

Authorities are investigating Cheallaigh's death, but said they don't consider it suspicious.
