Rainy, Stormy Week Ahead For NJ: See Details

Showers and thunderstorms will soak New Jersey and bring cooler temps at least through Thursday night, according to the latest forecast.

NEW JERSEY — After a nice start to the week, New Jerseyans can expect a damp and stormy rest of the week, according to the latest forecast.

Another slow-moving storm is heading north and will cause the Garden State to see several days of rain and cooler temperatures.

"Wet weather will be in place as several waves of showers will lift through the region," the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

While National Weather Service forecasters don't expect any severe weather, isolated thunderstorms are possible Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

A coastal flood advisory is in place from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday along the Delaware River, impacting Gloucester, Camden and northwestern Burlington counties.

AccuWeather forecasters predict flooding downpours through Tuesday night in South Jersey that could cause travel problems, but could also be beneficial.

“The rain will be much welcomed to areas in drought, including in Philadelphia, where only 11 percent of the average precipitation for the month of May has occurred so far," AccuWeather Meteorologist Elizabeth Danco said.

Millville in Cumberland County is one town that has received less than 20 percent of its average rainfall for May so far, according to AccuWeather.

"So the moisture is needed for further drought and wildfire relief in parts of the mid-Atlantic, unless there are outdoor plans, travel or construction projects on the docket," Danco said.

Through Thursday evening, most of the state should see between half an inch to 1.5 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers will become more scattered by Wednesday night and by Thursday evening, things should dry out.

But that won't last - forecasters expect more showers and possibly thunderstorms to move in by Friday afternoon with a cold front, and then another cold front could cause a repeat on Saturday.

"There is the potential for a severe weather risk with the cold fronts on Friday and Saturday but there is still uncertainty given this being in the long term part of the forecast period," the National Weather Service said.
