NJ’s Top Prosecutor Fired By Trump Says She Isn't Leaving
Desiree Leigh Grace, the longtime prosecutor and current first assistant said she is prepared to follow the judicial order and take the job.
Alina Habba's replacement as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey says she is still ready to serve after she was fired by the Trump administration just hours after the move was announced on Tuesday.
In a LinkedIn post Wednesday night, Desiree Leigh Grace, the longtime prosecutor and first assistant to Habba, said she is "prepared to follow that Order" as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor after it was decided that Habba's term would not be extended. Habba's original 120-day term was set forth by President Donald Trump when he appointed her on March 24.
"It has been the honor of a lifetime to represent the United States and to serve the people of New Jersey for the last nine years...I’ve served under both Republican and Democratic administrations. I’ve been promoted four times in the last five years by both," Grace said Wednesday.

"It will forever be the greatest honor that they selected me on merit, and I’m prepared to follow that Order and begin to serve in accordance with the law."
On Tuesday, United States Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that Grace was fired, and painted the move to replace Habba as "politically minded" and "rogue" judges looking to undermine the powers of the president. She goes on to add that Habba has "been doing a great job in making NJ safe again."

The White House says they are pushing forward with still trying to get Habba confirmed by the U.S. Senate after she was nominated on July 1 by President Trump to serve a full four-year term. New Jersey's two senators both are Democrats, and have the power to block her from continuing.
The order appointing Grace did not specify any reasons as to why she was chosen to assume the role.
Habba's term has included its share of high-profile battles across the state, regarding top-ranking officials and federal programs like immigration enforcement efforts.
