Severe Weather, Flooding In Updated Tuesday Forecast For NJ

Isolated severe storms, flash flooding and more is possible as New Jersey gets drenched Tuesday, according to the latest forecast.

NEW JERSEY — Severe storms and flash flooding is possible for the Garden State Tuesday with yet another rainy day in store, according to the latest forecast.

Wet weather will taper off around midday, but another round of showers and storms will form this afternoon, the National Weather Service said. However, these storms "look to be more isolated to scattered in nature...as in many or even most places won't see them," National Weather Service forecasters said.

Any storms that form could be severe, but widespread severe weather is not expected, forecasters said.

Those storms could have drenching downpours that cause flash flooding and gusty winds. Flooding is primarily a threat in low-lying areas, places with poor drainage and urban areas.

Lingering showers and storms should stop by the evening. The good news is that it will be followed by a stretch of dry weather.

"Much of the Northeast should be able to enjoy a two- to three-day stretch with no rain from Wednesday to Friday this week," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said.

Wednesday and Thursday will see warmups. Thursday in particular will likely see highs around 90 along the I-95 corridor and interior South Jersey. Elsewhere, temperatures will rise to the mid-to-upper 80s.

Unsettled weather returns for the weekend, but it doesn't look like it will be severe storms or even a washout. Instead, periods of rain with a few thunderstorms mixed in and mostly cloudy skies when it isn't raining is expected.

"All in all, just looks like another weekend featuring rain," the National Weather Service said.
