Father's Day Weekend Forecast Goes Downhill For NJ

NEW JERSEY — Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected for the weekend, likely putting a damper on any outdoor Father's Day plans New Jerseyans have made, according to the latest forecast.

Dry and hot weather we see Thursday will end by late Friday, when showers and perhaps a thunderstorm roll in, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Both Saturday and Sunday have rounds of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service. So if your Father's Day plans involve throwing some burgers on the grill or taking a trip down the shore, you may be out of luck.

While none of these storms are expected to be severe, locally heavy rain is possible "from time to time," forecasters said.

Temperatures will also be on the cooler side as more rain is possible into next week.

However, the rain and cool temps may not last forever, forecasters say.

Looking ahead into next week, "there are some signs that a spell of very warm weather or perhaps a even a heat wave may evolve," AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said. "That will depend on how strong an area of high pressure is that is forecast to build in place over the region."
