Tropical Storm Chantal Remnants To Bring Storms, Up To 5 Inches Of Rain To NJ
Flash flooding is the biggest threat Monday, forecasters say, and there's more heavy rain and storms coming this week.
As the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal pass the area, New Jersey could get slammed with heavy rain, severe storms and flash flooding, according to the latest forecast.
Forecasters predict that 2 to 5 inches of rain will fall Monday, making flash flooding the greatest threat. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch in Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, western Monmouth, Mercer, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, northwestern Burlington and Cumberland counties from 10 a.m. until Monday evening.
"The remnants of Chantal will move into the Mid Atlantic this morning bringing areas of heavy rain," National Weather Service forecasters said. "The tropical airmass will bring generally 1 to 2 inches of rainfall across the urban corridor but will have the potential to bring isolated amounts up to 5 inches leading to flash flooding."

Storms move in Monday afternoon and should end by 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Any residual flooding from earlier hours is expected to come to an end overnight, forecasters said.

Aside from the storm, Monday will be a muggy, hot day. It could feel close to 100 degrees along the urban corridor, according to the forecast.
And that will continue throughout the week. Several rounds of rain across multiple days will increase the chances of flash flooding across the Garden State, forecasters warn.
"Tuesday still has the greatest potential for the most widespread showers and thunderstorms, although Wednesday will also see scattered showers and thunderstorms developing again," National Weather Service forecasters said Monday. Chantal's remnants again are to blame for these storms.
Tuesday will also be the hottest day of the week. A Heat Advisory will be in place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Gloucester, Burlington and Ocean counties, with heat index values from 100 to 103 degrees expected. This could be expanded more into South Jersey as well.
As we get later in the week, temperatures will not be as hot, but showers and storms are still possible Thursday and Friday. Forecasters will have more specifics as the week progresses.
