Stormy Weather Ahead For NJ: Latest Forecast

Forecasters say we're entering an unsettled stretch, with the possibility of thunderstorms with hail and heavy downpours.

NEW JERSEY — Summer-like warmth will be joined by a stormy, unsettled stretch into next week across New Jersey, according to the latest forecast.

Scattered showers and some thunderstorms are possible Thursday evening and overnight, the National Weather Service said in its morning update.

Friday and Saturday will be warm and humid. Both days could bring some stormy weather as well, as a slow-moving front moves towards the region. AccuWeather forecasters predict hail and downpours Friday for the northwestern corner of the state.

Saturday will be a damp one, according to forecasters. The front's slow-moving nature could mean that the storm's severity could be limited. However, as of Thursday morning, the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has the state at a "marginal" risk of severe storms for Saturday.

AccuWeather forecasters say that the entire state will see thunderstorms. And more unsettled weather is in store after that, though forecasters are unsure of how it will play out.

"After Saturday, there is a fork in the road in terms of what that storm may do next and has to do with where and when a storm at the jet stream level of the atmosphere forms," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek said.

It could pick up speed, and dry air would chase rain offshore after another stormy Sunday. A storm could also form in the jet stream level of the atmosphere and cause showers and spotty thunderstorms to linger into next week.

This would bring a cooler and wetter outlook for New Jersey for the next week. And while that won't be fun for outdoor activities, it would be beneficial for wildfire concerns.
