Thunderstorms, Tornadoes Possible In NJ Thursday Forecast

Scattered severe thunderstorms and gusts up to 60 mph are expected across the state on Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

NEW JERSEY - The Garden State isn’t out of the woods yet as far as extreme weather is concerned.

As of Thursday morning, the entire state is under a severe weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, with “scattered severe storms expected” for the region.

Strong to severe storms with localized wind gusts up to 60 mph are expected to be ushered into the state around 4 p.m. today, starting from the state’s western border. The I-95 corridor should see storms pick up by 6 p.m., while the Jersey Shore will see thunderstorms starting around 8 p.m.

Weaker showers and thunderstorms could occur as early as the late morning. A couple of tornadoes and flash flooding are also possible, the National Weather Service added.

“Damaging winds will be an ongoing threat, but it should also be mentioned rainfall could be quite heavy and this could result in at least urban, small stream, and poor drainage flooding,” the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion.
