A new year = a new hobby. Why not Beekeeping? Join John Lyga is a retired PhD chemist and current president of the local Morris and Somerset Beekeepers Association who took up beekeeping 7 years ago to learn all about what it takes to get started in this fun and sweet hobby. Between his home beehives and hives he manages at Ross Farm in Basking Ridge and Wagner Arboretum in Warren Township, he has over 20 honeybee hives which produced over 600 lbs of honey this past year. 
Presenter: John Lyga, President of The Morris and Somerset County Beekeepers Association that meets the second Thursday of each month at St. Marks Church in Basking Ridge and uses facilities at Ross Farm and Wagner Arboretum for beekeeper hand-on training.

Enjoy a lively survey of how rock and television grew up together. Beginning in the mid-1950s, rock music found a surprising home on mainstream television. Programs hosted by Milton Berle, Steve Allen, and Ed Sullivan featured a wide variety of rock musicians, including Bill Haley &amp; the Comets, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, and especially Elvis Presley, who appeared on all three shows to galvanic response. Afternoon dance programs like “American Bandstand” also played a role in bringing rock to large, eager teenage audiences. Then the appearance of the Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1964 changed the face of pop culture, leading to an explosion of televised rock, from prime-time rock variety shows like “Shindig” and “Hullabaloo” to the sitcom rock antics of “The Monkees” and the jubilant renewal of Elvis Presley in his comeback special of 1968. 
Presenter: Brian Rose is a professor emeritus at Fordham University, where he taught for 38 years in the Department of Communication and Media Studies. He’s written several books on television history and cultural programming, and conducted more than a hundred Q&amp;A’s with leading directors, actors, and writers for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts &amp; Sciences, the Screen Actors Guild, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and the Directors Guild of America.

Check out the new architecture, gigantic skyscrapers built over train tracks, century-old ice buildings, shopping centers, new sculpture art, and, yes, even where the Oreo cookie was discovered! Presentation includes visits to the recently opened “Little Island @ Pier 55” and a look down from “The Edge” 1171’ above Manhattan.
