New Pollinator Garden Planted At Bernards Township Municipal Complex

This is the second garden planted in the Township, along with a meadow to support pollination.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A new pollinator garden was recently planted in Bernards Township as part of the Environmental Commission and Tree Commission's continued efforts.

The garden was planted this past weekend at the Municipal Complex off Collyer Lane, located near the parking lot, said Councilwoman Ana Duarte McCarthy at the July 29 Township Committee meeting.

A few months ago, McCarthy along with Jen Gander, Head of Parks and Recreation; Ryan Wallace, Head of the Department of Public Works; and Sarah Wolfson, Member, Environmental Commission walked the perimeter of Town Hall to see if the concept of adding a pollinator garden there was feasible.

"With support from Ryan and Jen, and the expertise of Sarah and the support of the Environmental Commission, this idea has moved forward, said McCarthy to Patch.

This is the second pollinator garden, along with a meadow planted in September 2024, next to the Engineering building, that Wolfson and the Environmental Commission have partnered with DPW and Parks and Rec to develop, said McCarthy.

She added that the creation of the gardens and the meadow is due to the volunteer efforts of Wolfson and residents such as Todd Edelstein.

"We recognize the time and talent of our volunteers and are greatly appreciative of their commitment to our township and the needs within our environment, such as supporting pollination," said McCarthy to Patch.
