31 Senior Citizens Receive Recognition for Their Artistic Talent

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. congratulated 31 Essex County artists who received awards in the Annual Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show. The artists were recognized during an awards ceremony on Wednesday, August 27th at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove.

“I congratulate the winners and all the artists who participated in this year’s Senior Art Show. The talent displayed by our senior artists is truly amazing and the artwork is inspiring,” DiVincenzo said. “Essex County has a thriving fine arts community and our Senior Art Show enables our older residents, both professionals and non-professionals, to display their original creations where the public can see them. This is an excellent event for us to promote the arts and inspire our residents to use their talents,” he added.

Artists, and the awards they received, are as follows:

Bloomfield

• David Fishbein won second place in the non-professional photography category for “Angler’s Dream.”

Cedar Grove

• Victoria Augustine won second place in the non-professional watercolor category for “Flowers.”
• Angelo Casarola won first place in the non-professional oil category for “Watching Bocce at Cedar Ridge.”
• Roseann Martin won first place in the non-professional drawing category for “A Boston Holiday.”
• Marie Matarazzo won second place in the non-professional pastel category for “Cardinal with Berries.”
• Constance Seugling won first place in the professional mixed media category for “One Shoe On.”

East Orange

• Lester Johnson won first place in the professional sculpture category for “Ball in a Cage.”
• Rudy Martin won second place in the professional oil category for “Gray Day Mood” and received an honorable mention in the professional watercolor category for “A New Father.”

Fairfield

• William Heina won second place in the non-professional sculpture category for “Oddity.”
• Donald Hults won first place in the professional photography category for “Ernie.”

Glen Ridge

• Nancy Taiani won second place in the professional acrylic category for “In the Glen.”

Livingston

• Harriet Hiller won first place in the professional drawing category for “Pencil Study.”
• Malini Parekh won first place in the non-professional photography category for “Make a Wish.”
• Marcella Sabo won first place in the professional oil category for “Singin’ in the Rain.”
• Angela Wang received an honorable mention in the non-professional oil category for “A Morning Jog.”
• Sheila Writt won first place in the non-professional pastel category for “Summer Brook.”

Maplewood

• Nila Pusin won first place in the non-professional sculpture category for “Lion.”

Montclair

• Steadman Ghanner won second place in the non-professional oil category for “Mother and Child.”
• Horst Hoyer won first place in the non-professional digital category for “Pincushion in 3D.”
• Edward Long won first place in the professional craft category for “The 19th Hole.”

North Caldwell

• Steve Van Zandt won second place in the professional photography category for “Nantucket – 4th of July.”

Nutley

• Nina Delcollo won first place in the non-professional print category for her untitled work.
• Carolyn Gregor won first place in the non-professional watercolor category for her untitled work.
• Theresa Ruffo won second place in the professional watercolor category for “Peaceful Tides.”
• Marlene Valdes won first place in the professional watercolor category for “This Old House.”

Parsippany

• Chas Palminteri won first place in the professional acrylic category for “Rigel.”

Roseland

• Joseph Mango won first place in the non-professional craft category for “Tuscan Taverna” and first place in the non-professional acrylic category for “Tuscan Hillside.”

Short Hills

• Shah Nimuben won second place in the non-professional craft category for “Tissue Holder.”

South Orange

• Sheila Sugarman won first place in the professional pastel category for “Misty Morning in Autumn.”
• Cindy Wolf won second place in the professional mixed media category for “Hamronium.”

Verona

• Ronnie Horn received an honorable mention in the non-professional oil category for “Last Survivor.”

The Essex County Senior Art Show and Exhibit was open to all professional and non-professional artists ages 60 and older. Art work was judged on originality, composition, style, and quality and creativity. Seniors whose artwork was awarded first place are automatically entered into the NJ Senior Citizens Art Show. The NJ Senior Citizens Art Show is September 25 to October 29 at Meadow Lakes Senior Living, 300 Meadow Lakes, East Windsor. Hours are Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
