American National Catholic Church Stands in Solidarity for Freedom and Human Dignity

Local parish joins citizens nationwide in peaceful call to uphold American values of liberty, compassion, and justice

Glen Ridge, NJ — The American National Catholic Church (ANCC), represented locally by the People of God and the clergy of St. Francis of Assisi ANCC in Glen Ridge, joined citizens across the nation this week in a peaceful show of unity and resolve. Participants gathered to affirm the enduring American values of freedom, justice, and compassion for all people.

Clergy and parishioners from St. Francis of Assisi, together with members of other faith communities, local officials, and residents of all ages and backgrounds, stood side by side to express deep concern over what they see as an erosion of civil liberties and the dignity of the human person.

“As people of faith, we cannot remain silent when the freedoms that define us as Americans are undermined,” said a representative of the parish. “Our presence today is an expression of solidarity—with one another and with those who continue to seek refuge and hope on our shores.”

The ANCC, a national community of inclusive Catholic parishes, has long championed social justice and the protection of human rights. In Glen Ridge and beyond, its members emphasize the Gospel call to welcome the stranger and to uphold the dignity of every person.

Those gathered reaffirmed their commitment to the American tradition of hospitality and compassion, recalling the timeless words inscribed on the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

“We the People are the stewards of our nation’s conscience,” said one participant. “Standing together in peace, we send a message to our leaders that our democracy—and our compassion—are not for sale.”

The clergy and people of the ANCC invite others to join them in prayer, dialogue, and action for a more just and welcoming society.
