Bloomfield Cops Make Arrests After 2 Smoke Shop Robberies

Bloomfield Police: One robbery involved a group of juveniles. Another involved a man armed with a handgun.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police have made arrests in connection with two separate robberies at local smoke shops, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Bloomfield Police Department released statements about each incident.

JUVENILES ARRESTED – “On Dec. 17, a group of juveniles entered the Exotic Snacks & Smoke shop and assaulted the clerk as they took merchandise. The juveniles returned to the establishment again later in the evening and again took merchandise and assaulted the employee. Detectives were able to view surveillance footage and identify the juveniles from prior investigations. The juveniles have been charged accordingly and one has been committed to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.”

ARMED ROBBERY – “On Dec. 20, a male suspect [later identified as Nahjere Hill, 21, of Newark] entered Omar’s Smoke Shop and brandished a handgun demanding money. [Hill] fled before police arrived on the scene. Detectives were able to track [Hill’s] movements prior to and after the robbery via surveillance footage. [Hill] was tracked to a residence in the township and detectives later observed [him] exiting that residence. [Hill] was apprehended and the handgun used in the robbery was located on [his person]. [Hill] was arrested and was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.”
