Bloomfield Will Open Door For ‘Section 8’ Housing Applications
Only the first 100 pre-applications will be accepted. A lottery will be conducted to select 75 families for placement on the waiting list.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Looking for affordable housing in Bloomfield? The township is getting ready to open its housing choice voucher (HCV) program for people seeking “Section 8” housing.
Federal “Section 8” vouchers are available for very low-income families, elderly residents and people with disabilities. Participants are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program, including single-family homes and townhouses.
The Bloomfield Township Housing Agency will open its HCV program at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6.

Only the first 100 pre-applications will be accepted. A lottery will be conducted to select 75 families for placement on the waiting list, according to established preferences.
No paper applications will be accepted. Only one pre-application per household is allowed. Applicants must be 18 or older – or an emancipated minor – and meet HUD income guidelines (see below).

Elderly or disabled applicants who need help can contact the Bloomfield Township Housing Agency at 973-680-4189 and 973-680-4188, or the Bloomfield Department of Human Services at 973-680-4017.
The Bloomfield Housing Agency administers a Section 8 voucher program that subsidizes about 260 low-income families’ rent. The agency has no emergency funding for housing and does not operate any public housing within the township.
