Fire At Bloomfield Diner Starts In Kitchen, Spreads To Roof: Official

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield firefighters put out a blaze at a local diner during the overnight hours on Monday. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries, but no employees or civilians were injured, authorities said.

According to the Bloomfield Fire Department, crews arrived at the Nevada Diner on Broad Street at 12:08 a.m. after getting a report about a kitchen fire.

Firefighters spotted smoke coming from the roof of the building on arrival. Crews then stretched a hose line to the kitchen to knock down all visible flames. But by that time, the fire had spread behind the walls and made its way to the roof space.

Firefighters put the blaze under control after 30 minutes. The last units left at 2:17 a.m.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries, but didn’t require medical attention.

Nutley and Belleville fire crews assisted their peers from Bloomfield at the scene. Bloomfield’s firehouses were backfilled with personnel from East Orange, Clifton and Montclair.

Bloomfield Fire Chief Lou Venezia said he was “proud of the aggressiveness and professionalism” of the town’s firefighters.
