Microbrewery In Bloomfield Hits Milestone, But No Opening Date Yet

The floor has been laid for a new microbrewery in Bloomfield – literally. Here's an update on Varitage Brew Works.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The floor has been laid for a new microbrewery in Bloomfield – literally.

Last week, Varitage Brew Works hit a major construction milestone at 58 Washington Street, pouring out a floor and moving on to framing at the new facility. It’s a turning point for the “long anticipated” microbrewery, the Bloomfield Center Alliance reported.

Co-owners Mark Costa and Neil Levine gave a progress update on social media Monday, noting that things are “trucking along” and “really moving now” (watch it below).

The brewery’s website reveals some more details about what’s in store. As seen on the FAQ page:

When Are You Opening? – “Right now we do not have a timeline indicating when we will be able to open our doors. Build-outs for breweries have a ton of moving parts and at this time pinpointing an exact date is a little tough. We can tell you that our construction is in full swing! We should be receiving our equipment very soon and racing towards completing our interior work. Once we pass inspections with the town, we can then work with the state on obtaining our license.”

What Styles Of Beer Will You Be Offering? – “Since we have a small brewhouse and footprint, we will be able to offer a wide variety of fresh beer. We plan on brewing traditional styles including a line of light lagers and ales that would quench the thirst of beer fans of any level. We also will have a rotating lineup of fresh NEIPAs, Sours and Experimental Pastry Stouts using unique ingredients from local vendors in our area. In addition to our craft beer options we will be offering a line of Hard Seltzers.”

Will You Be Serving Food? – “Unfortunately, we will not be serving food in our brewery. As per New Jersey State Law for Production Breweries, this is not allowed within our brewer's permit. We encourage you to bring some food to enjoy our beers with and more importantly support the local eateries by either ordering food from their establishments or taking some Varitage beers to go.”
