‘No Threat To Bloomfield Schools’ After Incident In Nearby NJ Town
Some Bloomfield residents may be feeling anxious after Monday's shutdown in Montclair. There's no cause for alarm, Bloomfield's mayor says.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Some Bloomfield residents may be feeling anxious after Monday’s incident that shut down the nearby Montclair Public School District. However, there’s no cause for alarm in Bloomfield, the town’s mayor says.
Public schools were closed in Montclair for the day after a 45-year-old staff member on administrative leave allegedly made a threat against a fellow employee on social media, authorities said. An arrest has since been made in the case.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said police are investigating the incident. There is no immediate threat to the district or its schools – or those nearby, authorities said. Read More: Threat Made To Montclair School Staffer, District Closed (UPDATED)

Bloomfield Mayor Jenny Mundell issued a statement about the school shutdown in Montclair, saying that “there is no threat to Bloomfield Public Schools.”
“I understand that the news of a potential threat in the neighboring community of Montclair this morning may have caused concern and anxiety,” Mundell wrote.

“I want to assure you that there is no cause for alarm here in Bloomfield,” she continued. “Our schools remain open today, and there are no threats or concerns related to our school system.”
“Police Chief [George] Ricci has been in communication with the Montclair Police Department as well our own superintendent,” Mundell added. “As always, we are ready to support our neighboring communities if/when they need it.”
