Plan For Sacred Heart Buildings In Bloomfield Moves Forward
A tentative plan to build a 212-unit residential building has moved forward in Bloomfield.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A tentative plan to turn two buildings that are part of Sacred Heart Church into a 212-unit residential building has moved forward in Bloomfield.
The Archdiocese of Newark owns the property – which includes the strip of land that the Sacred Heart School building and Nardiello Hall sit on – and could lease the property to a developer for the potential project, Essex News Daily reported.
“This is Sacred Heart’s property … this is what they want to do with the closed school,” township attorney Michael Parlavecchio said during a recent council meeting. “They’re looking to make different use of property that they’re no longer using.”

The council has approved a resolution that will allow the local planning board to look into carving an exemption to the town’s redevelopment plan to allow for the apartment building. It will be the first of several necessary steps before the project could take place, Jersey Digs reported.
Bloomfield Town Council members discussed the proposal at their Oct. 18 meeting. Watch the video below via WBMATV.
