P.O.P Will March to Condemn Eric Garner Grand Jury

The march and rally will take place tonight, Dec. 4 at 5:00 p.m.

The People’s Organization for Progress will march and rally on Thursday, December 4t, to condemn the grand jury in New York City for not criminally indicting the officers involved in the videotaped chokehold killing of an unarmed Eric Garner in Staten Island.

Garner was killed on July 17 of this year after officers approached him for trying to sell “loosies,” or loose cigarettes. Officer Daniel Pantaleo placed Garner in a chokehold, from which he never recovered.

“This is the time be heard on the streets of every city in this country,” said Lawrence Hamm, the organization’s founding chairman. “Even in some of the most egregious cases, police officers are rarely criminally indicted in police brutality cases.”

Participants will assemble at the Lincoln Monument in Newark on Springfield Avenue at 5:00 p.m.

POP organized a large similar march and rally just last week in response to the Michael Brown grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri not handing down an indictment of the officer responsible for his death.
