BLOOMFIELD, NJ — For the first time in two decades, Bloomfield will try to hash out a “master plan” for real estate development in the township.

This weekend, town officials will hold one of two public workshops about the campaign to formulate a local master plan, a document describing what the town is like now and what it should be in the future. The goal of a master plan is to guide decisions that the town will make about the future of land use and development.

According to Bloomfield officials, the town’s local master plan will cover issues such as:

  • community facilities
  • natural resource conservation

Ultimately, the plan will be adopted by the Bloomfield Planning Board, but community input is “extremely important,” town officials stressed in a news release.

“We invite all interested residents, business owners, and stakeholders to attend the public sessions and lend their voices and share their ideas for the future of Bloomfield,” Mayor Michael Venezia said.

The first workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 13 in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Plaza.

The second workshop will take place virtually via Zoom from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17. Sign in here.

If residents are unable to attend one of the public workshops, a community survey will be available until June 30 online here.

“This kickoff workshop will be the first of several public outreach forums, through which we hope to engage the community at various stages of the master plan process,” Venezia added.
