Caldwell Students Coached on Competing With Character

70 Caldwell students and coaches participate in pre-season workshops at the Yogi Berra Museum. An All-American basketball player also spoke.

About 70 students and coaches from Caldwell High School participated in a pre-season leadership workshop on Wednesday at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in Little Falls, NJ, with the focus on competing with character and building a culture of respect and team solidarity.

Over the last eight years, the Museum, through the dynamic presentations by Montclair State professors John McCarthy and Dr. Rob Gilbert, have hosted team captain and leadership workshops for thousands of high school students, the majority of them in the Super Essex Conference. The Caldwell students were also riveted by a presentation from Gian Paul Gonzalez, a former Montclair State University All-American basketball star and inspirational speaker, whose “All In” mantra was adopted by the New York Giants during their improbable 2011 run to the Super Bowl.

Some of the key issues covered in the workshop included: What are the responsibilities of a team captain in high school? How does one use this badge of leadership to make a difference? Is being a captain worth the responsibility. The Museum workshops are made possible through the support of Investors Bank.
