Local Parents Raise Funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research in Honor of Son

West Caldwell based magician, David Corsaro, and his wife, Lauren, hosted their second annual "Martinis & Magic" fundraiser on August 8.

Is the hand quicker than the eye? That is what David Corsaro, Eric DeCamps and Michael Kirschner set out to prove on Friday, August 8 with “Martinis & Magic,” a benefit magic show to help raise awareness and money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This is the second annual “Martinis & Magic” organized by David Corsaro, a West Caldwell based Magician, whose 4-year-old son Matthew was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 16-months-old.

“My wife and I have worked closely with the JDRF since our son was diagnosed,” Corsaro explained. “We are always looking for unique ways to raise money and awareness for this cause.” David performs table magic every Sunday at Calandra’s Mediterranean Grill on route 46 in Fairfield NJ.

When he heard about David’s son, Calandra’s general manager Gene Campanaro offered to donate a conference room and food to help David and his wife Lauren to organize the magic show. In the two years they have been running the event, David and Lauren have sold out every show, with two performances per night. Several of David’s friends, who are professional magicians in the New York and New Jersey area, have also donated their time and talent to help give the audience an unforgettable evening.
