NJ Company Recalls 8,300 Pounds of Chicken After Listeria Outbreak

A Fairfield-based company has recalled more than 8,300 pounds of chicken cutlets after Federal officials detected the deadly contamination.

A Fairfield, NJ-based company is recalling more than 8,300 pounds of chicken cutlets after the poultry was found to have traces of listeria contamination.

Federal Officials announced the recall of the Tnuva USA chicken cutlets on Wednesday after the contamination was discivered during a routine sampling by federal officials, NJ.com reports.

The contamination is connected to the Tnuva USA product labeled “Mom’s Chicken Extra Thin Cutlets.” The company is recalling about 8,316 pounds of chicken that were produced on August 18, and shipped to the comapmny’s distributor in this state.
According to reports by NJ.com, officials say that the contaminated product was discovered early and never reached the marketplace. However, officials are still investigating if the company followed proper procedure to clean up the line to prevent other cutlets from being contaminated by the same virus.

As of now, there have been no reports of illness associated with this contamination. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Listeria is a serious infection that primarily affects pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and those whith weak immune systems. Although Listeria can be deadly, it is unlikely that people without the risk factors mentioned above will be affected by the infection.
