Bear Spotted In Chatham Township Neighborhood, Police Warn
This is the 6th bear sighting in the past week, according to Chatham police.
CHATHAM, NJ — A black bear was spotted in the area of Sunset Drive on Friday afternoon, according to Chatham Township police.
The bear was reported by police to be entering garbage cans left outside and is believed to be non-aggressive. Residents are also advised not to feed, chase or interact with the bear. Residents should notify the police if the bear is displaying aggressive behavior.
This week, there have been more reports of bear activity in Chatham, and today's sighting brings the total to six in the last six days across the township.

The Chatham Township Police issued a warning to the locals, noting that black bears are naturally wary of people but providing some safety advice:
- Do not feed bears
- Never feed or approach a bear
- Remain calm if you encounter a bear. Do not run from it.
