BARRINGTON, NJ — Ten people were injured, including five children, in a fiery crash early Tuesday on the New Jersey Turnpike in Camden County, officials said.

Two SUVs and a truck collided at 1:39 a.m. on the Jersey Turnpike's northbound side in Barrington, said Sgt. Charles Marchan, a State Police spokesperson.

Multiple vehicles caught fire, according to the Runnemede Fire Department, which responded to the scene.

One driver sustained "serious" injuries, while all other injuries were minor, Marchan told Patch.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Ford SUV was traveling north in the left lane when it ran off the roadway to the right, struck the guardrail, continued north and hit a concrete barrier, Marchan told Patch. It became disabled in the left lane.

An Infiniti SUV struck the disabled Ford and sent the vehicles in an easterly direction before a Freightliner crashed into both, Marchan said.

The Ford driver was seriously injured, but his condition was unavailable as of this writing.

Northbound lanes were closed for several hours before the northbound side fully reopened later Tuesday morning.

The crash is under investigation.
