Action-Packed Weekend in Collingswood

There's lots to do in the borough this weekend, including a Civil War historical program, auditions for a Moliere play, and Second Saturday.

OnΒ Friday, September 13,Β 18-35-month-olds can visit the library forΒ simple stories, finger plays, songs, and playtime.Registration is limited to 12 children; callΒ Dot or Carol at 856.858.0649.

Then, on FridayΒ night, Cherry Hill singer-songwriterΒ Liz de LiseΒ visits Grooveground for Fridays Live.Β EnjoyΒ her "punchy, thoughtful lyrics and unique guitar styling" from 8:30 p.m. on.

Saturday, September 14Β brings with it the area's most popularΒ weekend farmers market on Atlantic Avenue, from Collings to Irvin Aves. (8 a.m. to 12 noon).

Then from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,Β the Collingswood Shakespeare Company is hosting auditions forΒ MoliΓ¨re’sΒ The Imaginary Invalid,Β which will be performed in November. Call Mariann at 856-858-0576 or email Francie at francieonavon@gmail.com for audition information.

That leaves you just enough time to make it over to the Collings-Knight House forΒ the 2 p.m. historical programsΒ commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

"SusanΒ Christides will speak aboutΒ the US Sanitary Commission and Great Central Fair inΒ Philadelphia, and the roles adopted by women during the war. There will be period clothing, fascinating factsΒ and refreshments. The program is free and open to history lovers of all ages."

But make sure you leave lots of room for entertainment on Saturday night, when the borough celebrates Second Saturday in Collingswood.Β 

Live music, artists and performers will be found in just about every other doorway on Haddon Avenue,Β including at Grooveground, where the work of Trenton-based Ray Buzzelli will hang.Β
