Another Drug Arrest for Collingswood P.D.

A motor vehicle stop in the area of Route 130 and the White Horse Pike led Collingswood police to a Pennsauken man they say was traveling with suspected heroin.

At 11:58 p.m. on Jan. 9, officers stopped a vehicle with an out-of-date inspection sticker. When asked for identification, the driver, Christopher M. Newton, 33, produced a Pennsylvania ID-only card.

The officer observed that Newton was in possession of a small plastic container containing a small piece of cotton police said is commonly used as a filter for heroin, according to reports.

Upon further questioning, Newton voluntarily advised that he was in possession of “works”—slang for intravenous drug paraphernalia—and surrendered to police three syringes, a pipe typically used in the consumption of crack-cocaine, and a length of tubing commonly used in the injection of heroin.

Newton was also found with four clear Ziploc bags containing blue wax-paper bags that held a powdered substance they believed to be heroin. 

After confirming his identity, police also discovered that Newton was wanted on $1,116 in active warrants from Cherry Hill ($650), Berlin Township ($366) and Camden City ($100).

Newton was charged with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance (CDS), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic syringes, as well as with multiple motor vehicle summonses. He was remanded to the Camden County Sheriff’s Department, and his bail was set at $5,000, full cash.
