Borough Honors Michelle Miller as Its Outstanding Volunteer

Miller, the Junior Women's Club president, topped a short list of five nominees. She was honored with an official proclamation, Collingswood Cash, and a Beau Monde spa gift.

Collingswood Borough Commissioners kicked off their monthly meeting April 1 with a proclamation recognizing lifelong resident Michelle Miller during Volunteer Appreciation Month.

From a field of very worthwhile candidates, Collingswood Junior Women’s Club President Michelle Miller took home the award. She was nominated by her mother, Sherry Harvey, whose winning essay will be published in the borough newsletter, The Town Crier.

An excerpt provided by the borough reads:

Michelle has helped to raise thousands of dollars through projects such as the Night Out for Charity, Fall Festival in Knights Park, the pollination garden in Knights Park, the Santa Brunch, the Kids Walk, the 4th of July bike parade and many other projects…Michelle and her daughter Brea set up an Alex’s Lemonade Stand and raised over $1,200…She volunteers every Thursday at Tatem School library to help students choose reading material.

Miller, who was honored by borough leadership with a proclamation, and Harvey will each take home $50 in Collingswood Cash. Miller was also awarded a makeover package and massage from Beau Monde Salon and Spa.

In addition to Miller, the full list of nominees included:

  • John Rossi, for community service and work with Musicians on Call (check out John in this 2010 clip from Action News). Nominated by his son Jake Rossi.
  • Chuck Jackson, for involvement in community theater (read our 'I Am Collingswood' feature on Chuck here). Nominated by Patricia Nigro.
  • Peter Pernice, for acts of kindness and community service (Peter owns Vitality Fitness). Nominated by Janet McCarthy.
  • Mary Johnson, for work with various organizations including PTA and the Library Board of Trustees. Nominated by Christine Nannery.

”Thanks to Michelle and all the volunteers that make Collingswood a really exceptional place,” said Mayor James Maley in a statement accompanying the announcement of Miller's award.

“The way people give back tirelessly to our community is one of the most outstanding things about our town.”
