Collingswood Calendar: Holiday Events for Kids, Art Within Reach

There's also fundraisers for the Almost Home Animal Shelter and CHS marching band, the first Collingswood U speakers bureau event, registration for SAT prep help, and so much more...

On Monday, December 2, don't miss the inaugural presentation from the Collingswood U speaker's bureau. Resident Kelly Smith-Master will present on Human Trafficking at 6:30 p.m. in the Collingswood Community Center—and as an added bonus, you can stop by the Pop Shop afterwards for 15% off your bill or a free appetizer.

At 7 p.m., the monthly meeting of your local government leaders will commence in the Community Center, as the Collingswood borough commissioners gather. Show up and make your voice heard.

The Community Center will be packed Monday, as the Collingswood Co-op organizers also gather at 7 p.m. Read about their pursuit of bringing a food co-op to the borough here.

On Wednesday, December 4, St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold advent vespers at 7 p.m. The services are offered every Wednesday throughout the month "for quiet reflection in this holiday season."

Thursday, December 5, is opening night of the Collingswood Community Theatre production of Jingle Aargh the Way! A Christmas Pirate Adventure. The musical, which is based on the book How I Became a Pirate, tells of a hunt for Christmas treasure.

Performances will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday and at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m. Friday, on the main stage at the Scottish Rite Auditorium. Tickets at $5 and may be purchased at the door.

Friday, December 6, kicks off the annual Art Within Reach "Art for the Holidays" sale. From pottery to glass, jewelry, woodworking, paintings, and photography, local artists' wares will be on display all weekend long at 300 Highland Avenue in Collingswood.

The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit Art Within Reach.

Then, at 8:30 p.m., check out Valkyrians at Fridays Live at Grooveground. The Philly-based alt rockers will fuse folk and baroque melodies in an intimate setting while you have a warm beverage from the hot chocolate bar.

Saturday, December 7, parents looking to help their high school juniors bump up their SAT scores should pop over to Collingswood Borough Hall at 10 a.m. to sign up for the CSAT prep course. The classes will start in January 2014. Don't know what CSAT is all about? Here's a primer.

Then, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Collingswood High School cafeteria will host its fourth annual holiday bazaar—meet Santa, do arts and crafts, and shop while supporting the award-winning Collingswood High School Marching Band.
