Collingswood Calendar: Zombie Chase, Taste of CamCo

Plus: story hour for kids, John Shaughnessy at Grooveground, Movie Night and the Holy Trinity Yard Sale.

On Monday, October 21, the Scottish Rite ballroom turns into a foodies' paradise, with the "Savor the Flavor of Camden County" event. For $20 ($25 at the door), you get a taste of several of the top restaurants in the area as well as a cash bar. Register here, or call 856-667-1600 for tickets.

Tuesday, October 22 brings with it Collingswood Movie Night, with Patch blogger Robert Castle. Stop by the Collingswood Public Library (771 Haddon Avenue) at 6 p.m. for a classic work of cinema, post-screening discussion, and light refreshments. Free!

On Thursday, October 24, parents of 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds can take their little ones to the Collingswood Public Library at 10 a.m. for story hour. Kids will enjoy stories, songs, finger plays, and snack, as well as a take-home craft. Adults, there's coffee there, too. Call Carol or Dot at 856-858-0649 to sign up.

On Friday, October 25, the library offers story hour for 18-35-month-old children. Space is limited to 14 kids, so call 856-858-0649 to register.

Then, at 8:30 p.m., head over to Grooveground for Fridays Live featured artist John Shaughnessy. The South Jersey singer-songwriter describes himself as an “avid listener,” who creates power-pop with something for everyone.

(Glam rock fans: request John's take on Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes," which he performs with the Collingswood Bike Share band Candy Volcano.)

Saturday, October 26, before you head out to the Collingswood Farmers Market in the morning, get in a quick 5K at the Zombie Chase Run at 7:30 a.m.

The undead move faster than you'd expect at this race, which benefits the Garfield School PTA. The race costs $25 (click here to sign up), and prizes are awarded to the top finishers in various age groups. Costumes are encouraged!

From 10 a.m. to noon, learn from the Proud Neighbors of Collingswood how to best care for your historic home with the second of three restoration clinics at the Knight Park historic caretaker's house. Learn how to remove a historic window, scrape, repair, and insert metal weather stripping, replace sash cords and retain original historic molding. Call 609-7073684 for info.

If you've still got something left in the tank, you can pick up a bargain at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church community yard sale (839 Haddon Avenue). This rain-or-shine event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Want to be a seller? Spend $20 and you get an 8-foot-by-2-and-a-half-foot table. Register at www.holytrinity.us, (856)-858-0491, holytrinity1@verizon.net.

Then, at 8 p.m., all you wayward sons can carry on to the Scottish Rite Auditorium, where majestic rock group Kansas powers up the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $29 to $47.

Sunday, October 27, the classic rock recall continues, as Roger Hodgson of Supertramp takes the stage at the Scottish Rite auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The composer behind hits like “Give a Little Bit,” “The Logical Song,” “Take the Long Way Home,” and “Fool’s Overture” turns up the volume at Collingswood's premiere music venue.
